Find Your Tribe! The Value of Networking for Lampworkers

For many lampworkers, working with glass is solitary activity. But sometimes you have to turn off the torch and do some socializing. Networking with other glassblowers is a great way to socialize and strengthen your business.

Benefits of Networking

1. Create friendships with others who love working with glass as much as you do. No one besides another glassblower is going to understand how heartbroken you were when the guy in front of you in line bought the last pound of Illuminati.

2. Learn from each other. We all have our preferred techniques, but sometimes watching someone else work can prompt us to try new things or do something an alternate way.

3. Create working relationships that might bring you jobs or collaborations. Take Ian Gillen, he did a demo at the last ASGS Rocky Mountain Section Meeting. After the demo, Precision Scientific asked him to help out with a project they had going.

Even though the glassblowing community doesn't fit the corporate stereotypes, we still can take the "It's not always what you know, but who you know" adage to heart. We here at Glasscraft do our best to give our community plenty of opportunities to hang out and learn something new about glass. Your next chance to network is the Rocky Mountain Section Meeting and Demo Night on May 30, 2015 from 6pm-9pm at Glasscraft, Golden. For more information, visit the Facebook event page
